Cancer starts when cells start to grow out of control. Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), is a condition where the blood and bone marrow contain too many of a type of white blood cells called lymphocytes.
In CLL, the cancer (leukaemia) cells often build up slowly. Many people don’t have any symptoms for at least a few years. But over time, the leukaemia cells spread to other parts of the body, including the lymph nodes, the liver and spleen.
Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) and small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) are the same disease, but in CLL the cancer cells are found mostly in the blood and bone marrow. In SLL the cancer cells are found mostly in the lymph nodes.
